Real Madrid has defeated Real Sociedad in a La Liga match played at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday. Madrid won the match by a close margin of 4-3. This was the 11th victory for Madrid in the ongoing La Liga. Madrid is currently at no. 3 in the points table with 36 points in 18 matches.

Real Madrid was off to a brilliant start in the match and took the lead in the second minute with the goal of Karim Benzema. Sami Khedira set up the goal with a great pass to Benzema just outside the penalty area. Benzema turned and smashed the ball into the left hand corner of the net.

But, Madrid didn’t manage to maintain the lead for a long time. The scores were equalized just after a few minutes. Sociedad earned a penalty in the ninth minute and Xabi Prieto made full use of that opportunity. He sent the ball into the right hand corner of the net and brought his team back into the match. The goal keeper of Madrid, Iker Casillas, was completely deceived by that shot. He dived in the wrong direction.

Real Madrid got ahead again in the 35th minute with the goal of Sami Khedira. Who capitalized on the pass of Ricardo Carvalho and played a brilliant back heeled shot to send the ball into the net. But, again, Madrid lost the advantage soon. Prieto found the net for the second time in the match in the 40th minute and the scores got equalized.

The Real Madrid team started the second half very aggressively. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a couple of goals just in the space of two minutes and put the Sociedad team under a lot of pressure. However, Prieto completed his hat trick in the 76th minute and made the match quite interesting, but, eventually, he wasn’t able to prevent the defeat of his team. In the remaining time, the Madrid players played quite sensibly and didn’t give any chance to their opponent.

Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has said that he will not be taking charge of Chelsea in the summer. Portuguese manager José Mourinho has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu all season long after it was claimed that the manager was extremely unhappy at the way he was being treated by the Spanish media. However, he is once again happy at the club after getting very close to lifting the title from Barcelona’s hands. The club currently enjoy a seven point advantage at the top of the table. However, they have failed to progress in the Champions League this season as well.

As a result, Real Madrid have now failed in the semi-final stage of the competition in consecutive seasons. The club were eliminated by Bayern Munich on penalties, which meant that José Mourinho will not be facing Chelsea in the final of the Champions League. Following the defeat to Bayern Munich, Mourinho said that he will not be leaving Real Madrid at this stage because he believes that there is still some unfinished business at the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid are looking to win their 10th European Cup. Chelsea interim manager Roberto di Matteo has now become the favourite to take over the position full-time.

“If I have anything in my mind, it is to try to win with these players. Winning the Copa del Rey last year was important and if we win the league this year that will be important too. Two (Champions League) semi-finals is also not bad but we want more. My feeling is that we still have the ability to grow as a team and the club has room to grow too,” Mourinho said after the match. Mourinho also said that he wants his old club Chelsea to win the Champions League this season.

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has said that Real Madrid are always looking for excuses instead of actually fighting for the title. Real Madrid lost the opportunity to maintain the 10 point advantage over Barcelona in the league, as they drew back to back games against Malaga and Villarreal. Hence, they are commanding advantage at the top of the table over Barcelona has been reduced to just eight points, with the game against the current champions at the Camp Nou still remaining for Real Madrid. Following the draw with Villarreal in the midweek action, José Mourinho was sent off along with a few other players for Real Madrid.

Following the match, Real Madrid manager José Mourinho expressed his disappointment at not being able to get the decisions in his favour. Now, Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has hit back at Real Madrid by saying that they should learn to get along with the decisions given by the referee and cannot complain too much. He also termed Madrid as ‘sore losers’ after their unwillingness to take the bad decisions on the chin. It is an extremely tough situation for Mourinho, who is for the first time, leading Barcelona in the league. Madrid have the opportunity to get the title from the clutches of Barcelona after three seasons.

“Madrid are sore losers looking for excuses. Against Malaga and Villarreal, they did not do any worse than when they played against Betis or Rayo Vallecano. They won matches when they did not deserve to and they drew matches when they had everything to win. It is just that simple. Nowadays, Madrid either win or they are left angry. There is no middle ground,” Cruyff said in his column on the El Periodico de Catalunya. There are only 12 matches left in the Spanish league.
